Anti-Scam
The vast majority of hosts and service providers on LekkeHost are genuine, trustworthy people doing great business together. Still, wherever money and strangers meet online, a little caution goes a long way. Please read these safety tips before booking or accepting a job.
Our safety advice
- Deal locally and in person. LekkeHost is built for Cape Town and the Western Cape — meet the provider or host, and view the property or service where possible.
- Never pay upfront for the full job before any work is done. Be wary of anyone demanding a large deposit before you have met or verified them.
- Avoid untraceable payments. Never send money by money-transfer services (such as Western Union or MoneyGram), gift cards, or cryptocurrency to someone you have not verified.
- Verify before you trust. Ask for references, past work, registration or compliance certificates (for example an electrician’s Certificate of Compliance) where relevant.
- Be cautious of deals that seem too good to be true. Unusually low prices or high-pressure urgency are common warning signs.
- Keep communication on record. Use written messages so you have a clear trail of what was agreed.
- Protect your personal information. Only share what is necessary to arrange the service.
Report suspicious activity
If you come across a listing or message that seems fraudulent, please report it via our Contact page. LekkeHost is a platform that connects hosts and providers; we are not party to the agreements made between them, so staying alert protects everyone in the community.
